CKPL Newspaper Card Catalog Project

Kent Branch Ontario Ancestors has partnered with the Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) on an exciting project. CKPL’s newspaper microfilm index catalog has over 179,000 cards containing biographical and reference information from Chatham newspapers dating back to the mid 1800’s. The first phase of the project involved digitizing the cards for preservation. We are now able to share the digitized cards on our website. All information is the property of the Chatham Kent Public Library. All articles referenced on the cards are available to view on microfilm in the Chatham-Kent Public Library or contact the Kent Branch to have our volunteers look up articles on the microfilms. Send an email to [email protected].. Access other local history resources offered by the CKPL.

Our transcription project has passed 2 critical milestones. All of the cards have been scanned and transcribed. A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who have participated in this project. We are now busy behind the scenes doing edits and rescans. Stay tuned for more updates when this valuable resource will be available for searching.
